Sakurajima is an active volcano located in Kagoshima Bay, Japan. It is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, erupting almost constantly since 1955. The most recent eruption was on February 9, 2023. Despite the volcanic activity, Sakurajima is home to more than 4,000 people who live on the island. Visitors can take a ferry to the island and explore its natural beauty, history and culture. There are several attractions on the island, such as the "Sakurajima" Lava Nagisa Park. The park has Japan's largest footbath, which is approximately 100 meters long. How about relieving your travel fatigue while looking at the endless Kinko Bay in front of you and Sakurajima rising behind it?
Sengan-en is a traditional garden and stately home in Kagoshima built by the 19th head of the Shimadzu family, Mitsuhisa, in 1658. Sengan-en uses the principle of "borrowed scenery", and incorporates the background elements of active volcano Sakurajima and Kinko Bay as part of the gardens. Delight in the contrast between the raw power of active volcano Sakurajima and the 12 acres of calming traditional gardens. Discover peaceful ponds, bubbling streams, mysterious shrines, tea rooms, a bamboo grove, and a mountain hiking trail with a breathtaking panoramic view of the bay and volcano beyond.
The busiest area in Kagoshima is from Kagoshima Chuo Station to the Tenmonkan-dori shopping street. The department store "AMU PLAZA" is co-constructed with Kagoshima Chuo Station. You can buy clothing and groceries from various major brands, and there are also various food courts. There are few restaurants where you can eat local Kagoshima cuisine. If you want to find a more local restaurant, we recommend going to Tenmonkan-dori Shopping Street. This is the largest shopping street in the Minami Kyushu region. Drugs, cosmetics, gourmet food or restaurants are all gathered here! Kagoshima’s famous Shirokuma shaved ice can also be eaten at Tenmonkan Dori Shopping Street!

We highly recommend that you book our shore excursions now if you will be taking a cruise in 2025. 2023 has already seen large crowds, and 2024 will see even more. We expect many tourists will be unable to book their shore excursions in 2025, so please make your plan as soon as possible.
